Further Info

PLEASE NOTE: This is community theater, we can only make a great show if we work together as a community. Actors are expected to participate in build days and show promotion in order to make it the most successful experience possible.

Note: Come From Away traditionally features a cast of 12 actors who each pay multiple roles. We are planing to have an expanded cast for fuller harmonies and exciting possibilities for acting and staging. The way the role distribution will break down will be decided by the creative team at auditions, but the intention is for each actor to have one prominent character as well as some smaller roles and ensemble moments as well. The roles are listed below in the traditional format, please use it as a loose guide and know our production will distribute characters differently amongst actors. We strive to cast characters representationally as much as possible, but in a show with doubling of characters, that isn't always possible. We may also adapt some characters in minor ways that do not contradict the script to fit the performers better.

Synopsis

Come From Away is a critically acclaimed musical featuring a culturally relevant script accompanied by a deeply moving score by Irene Sankoff and David Hein. The show has earned global success with 37 award nominations, 13 of which resulted in wins, most notably Best New Musical at the 2019 Olivier Awards and Outstanding Musical at the 2017 Drama Desk Awards. The show’s global presence resonates across all audiences as an uplifting reminder of humanity’s ability to come together, no matter what the circumstances.

Come From Away is based on the true story of the time when the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland, played host to the world. What started as an average day in a small town turned into an international sleepover, when 38 planes, carrying thousands of people from around the globe, were diverted to Gander’s airstrip on September 11, 2001. Undaunted by culture clashes and language barriers, the people of Gander cheered the stranded travelers with music, an open bar and the recognition that we’re all part of a global family.
