About Us

Renegade creates productions that challenge the standard expectations of theater; high quality productions in terms of music, dance & acting and a depth of content that inspires & uplifts and/or leaves the audience profoundly moved and thinking deeply. We believe excellence requires that those involved in the cast and crew are enriched by the experience, not damaged by it- theater should be a cathartic and enriching experience, not one that causes undue stress or emotional distress. Cast and crew should learn and grow, audiences should be inspired, moved and encouraged to think in new ways or experience something they wouldn't otherwise.

Renegade theater Co. is committed to putting on high quality productions without undue stress or pressure. Theater should be a fun and positive experience for those creating the shows as well as for the audience. Too often theater students are taught to suffer for their art, to sacrifice their own needs and mental health in order to put on a good show. We are committed to ensuring this is NOT the experience of our students. While we work hard and have high standards for our shows, our top priority is always the mental health of our performers and crew.

We achieve this by cultivating a staff of adult professionals that are committed to making the theater a safe space for our students and to developing connections with them built on mutual trust, respect and honesty. In addition, we devote much of our rehearsal time to team building, group cooperation and empathy skills, as well as prioritizing the teaching of self awareness and self regulation so that our actors can avoid the emotional stress that often comes with theater. We also have a licensed therapist on staff as a consultant, with many years of experience working with youth theater, who helps us ensure we are supporting our students with best practices in every way possible.

We believe that theater should be available to everyone, regardless of experience or income level. We prioritize inclusivity and have a vibrant community that is diverse and inclusive, particularly for low income, Queer and neurodivergent students. Renegade is a safe place for everyone to be themselves and to explore their truth and their identity. We provide many scholarships to students who may not typically feel that this type of theater is an option for them, and our goal is to never turn a student away for lack of funds. Our Mission

Renegade Theater Co. creates opportunities for creatives to explore performing arts in new and exciting ways. Renegade values the process of creating theater collaboratively rather than focusing solely on the product and it prioritizes inclusivity and representation of diversity. Renegade strives for quality artistic expression without sacrificing the mental health of our cast, crew and staff.

We create profound theatrical experiences that allow those involved to grow and learn, and to contribute towards creating a strong and supportive community, both within the company itself and as a part of the greater society that we live in. We believe that art should enhance and enrich the community as a whole by pushing us to think in new ways, and to step outside our comfort zone.
