Synopsis

She Kills Monsters tells the story of Agnes Evans, a young woman grieving for her deceased sister. The Evans sisters never were especially close, but after Tilly's death Agnes receives a notebook containing a game scenario created by her sister. She discovers that Tilly was a well-known Dungeons & Dragons player, and that she was passionate about online fantasy gaming.

In order to unlock more secrets about her mysterious young sibling, Agnes recruits a “dungeon master” named Chuck to help her understand and grieve Tilly. Chock-full of supermodel elves, dominatrix warrior women, and nasty ogres, She Kills Monsters is a surprisingly sweet tale of friendship, loss, and acceptance.

Deceptively breezy and rather ingenious. The whole enterprise is kind of dopey and kind of invigorating and kind of remarkable. It will slash and shapeshift its way into your heart.

Cast of Characters

AGNES EVANS

A high school teacher in her mid to late 20s who leads a relatively average life. She is initially depicted as pragmatic, cautious, and somewhat disinterested in fantasy or nerd culture. Through the show's journey, Agnes transforms, becoming more adventurous, empathetic, and connected to her own emotions and those around her.

TILLY EVANS

Agnes's younger sister, a high school student who died in a car accident. In the world of Dungeons & Dragons, she is Tillius the Paladin, a powerful and brave knight. Tilly is a self-proclaimed nerd and a heroic and complex figure whose struggles with her identity and sexuality are central to the play.

CHUCK BIGGS

A high school student and Dungeon Master. He is quirky, enthusiastic, and socially awkward, but his deep knowledge and passion for the game make him an invaluable guide for Agnes. Chuck's character balances humor and sincerity, providing comic relief while also demonstrating genuine care for Tilly and her memory.

MILES

Agnes's boyfriend, mid to late 20's. He is well-meaning and caring, isinitially portrayed as somewhat conservative and conventional, Miles's character arc involves him briefly playing a villain in game and ultimately supporting Agnes's journey.

LILITH MORNINGSTAR/ LILY

In the game, Lilith Morningstar is a fierce Demon Queen and a member of Tilly's adventuring party. She is strong, confident, sexy and loyal. Outside the game, she is Lily, a shy student who shared a close, possibly romantic, relationship with Tilly.

ORCUS/ RONNIE

Orcus is a lazy, comical demon in the game who used to be a fearsome Overlord but now prefers to lounge around watching TV. He provides much of the play's humor with his irreverent attitude. Outside the game, he is Ronnie, another high school student who knew Tilly.

KALIOPE DARKWATER/ KELLY

Kaliope is an athletic Dark Elf and an expert tracker in the game, part of Tilly's party. She is graceful, skilled, and speaks in an archaic, formal manner. Outside the game, she is Kelly, a high school student with a physical disability.

VERA

Agnes's best friend and colleague, a high school guidance counselor in her mid to late 20's. She is pragmatic, straightforward, and often the voice of reason in Agnes's life.

STEVE

A recurring character in Tilly's Dungeons & Dragons game as a nerdy Mage, often meeting unfortunate and humorous deaths. Out of game he is a nerdy highschooler.

EVIL GABBI & EVIL TINA

Evil succubus cheerleaders, in the world of the game they are recurring demon villains that the party must battle and defeat. Outside the game, they are popular highschoolers who act nice to adults, but are really Tilly's biggest bullies.

NARRATOR

Our guide through the story, described as being modeled after Kate Blanchett in Lord of The Rings. (Will double with Farrah).

FARRAH

A cute fairy on the surface, she reveals herself to be a bloodthirsty boss villain in the game. (Will double with Narrator)

MONSTER ENSEMBLE

We will be casting 3-4 actors as the Monster Ensemble who will play a variety of monsters throughout the show. Non-speaking characters, these actors can be any age as long as they are agile and comfortable with physical acting, movement and are trained in or ready to learn fight choreo.
